Challenge

Kjipuktuk (Halifax, NS) is hosting the largest North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in 2023 , the first in 3 years post the global pandemic. NAIG is an annual athletic competition with 16 sports in over 21 different venues, bringing in over 5000 Indigenous North American athletes, coaches, delegates and staff from 756 First Nations from across North America. With moving target dates due to the pandemic as well as global restrictions that needed to be adhered to, NAIG and its Governance Committee needed a mechanism whereby they could work with an agency to manage their communications through the moving target dates, all the way to when the Games would finally take place.

Outcome

WeUsThem took on a two-phased approach to developing a communications vehicle integrated with their marketing channels first through the pandemic years to be able to communicate globally on where the games stood with its planning. What the dates would be, what the recruitment could look like, who the partners and sponsors are, were all key elements leading to the big announce in 2022 about the 2023 Games that was to occur.

In preparation for the Games, the second phase involved the creation of yet another communications vehicle that communicates through to all the audiences NAIG wants to speak to, from athletes, coaches, delegates, staff, sponsors, partners to volunteers on the lead up to the Games. In addition, the channel also has to speak to all the visitors and those cheering in the stands with live feeds from GEMS.pro, social media and live storytelling and blogs coming in from all the Games communications teams. From live storytelling to interviews to capture of the various heats of the various sports to capturing the rich cultural attributes are just some other features that make the Games what it is.

From absolute pride in being involved in such an initiative to be able to support the Games, WeUsThem has put together what is the communications vehicle that will set the Games apart and serve as its channel to reach its various demographics all across North America and globally!
